Many undergraduates preparing for health-related careers choose the biology major because of the obvious connection between medicine and biology. Please note, however, that students do not need to major in biology to be "pre-med" or "pre-vet". Many students at Cornell who are preparing to attend medical school upon graduation major in areas such as Communication, Economics, Chemistry, Engineering, etc. In fact, we encourage students to major in a discipline in which they are interested rather than selecting biology based on the incorrect assumption that doing so would increase their chances for acceptance to medical school.
